Congratulations to Prof. Yongqiang Tu on winning the 2022 Ho Leung Ho Lee Award.

 

On February 17th, 2023, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award Ceremony for the years 2021 and 2022 was held in Beijing. A total of 112 outstanding science and technology workers were awarded. Prof. Yongqiang Tu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, from School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering was awarded the 2022 Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Science and Technology Progress Award.

Prof. Yongqiang Tu mainly engages in organic synthesis research, and has achieved a series of research results with important international influence in the fields of design and synthesis of organic catalysts, carbon-carbon bond rearrangement reactions, asymmetric reactions, and synthesis of natural products and drug molecules. He has published more than 250 papers in important academic journals at home and abroad. Prof. Yongqiang Tu was funded by the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars in 2000 and received the Outstanding Young Scholar Award from the Hong Kong Qiu Shi Science and Technology Foundation. In 2001, he received the first batch of Organic Chemistry Innovation Groups Fund from the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has won first prizes at the provincial and ministerial level three times. In 2005, he was appointed as Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor by the Ministry of Education. In 2009, he was elected as academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2012, he was selected as National Outstanding Science and Technology Worker by the China Association for Science and Technology, and in 2016, he won the National Natural Science Second Prize. In addition, Prof. Tu has also received awards such as the Young Chemist Award and the Wei Shan Natural Product Synthesis Award from the Chinese Chemical Society, as well as the Chirality Award and other awards. He was formerly the associate editor of the well-known journal Chem. Commun. of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK, and is currently an executive member of the Chinese Chemical Society, a fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society, and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in the UK."

 

The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation is a non-profit scientific and technological award fund established in 1994 by patriotic financial and industrialists from Hong Kong, namely Robert Ho, Quo-wei Lee, Tim Ho, and Quo-jun Lee. Its purpose is to promote the development of science and technology in China and reward scientific and technological workers who have made outstanding achievements and significant innovations. The Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation has established the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award for Scientific and Technological Achievements, the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award for Scientific and Technological Progress, and the Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation Award for Scientific and Technological Innovation. The awards are evaluated once a year. Over the past 29 years, a total of 1,526 outstanding scientific and technological workers have been selected for the awards, making it a successful example of non-governmental organizations creating science and technology awards in China.
